Digital Discoveries

The Digital Discoveries Academy helps students build essential technology and communication skills for the modern world. Students learn how to use computer programs, create digital content, and explore areas such as gaming, web design, and media production.

The program prepares students for future technology careers and provides the opportunity to earn the Social Media Strategist Industry Certification.

What do students do?

Students use Google Workspace tools to create presentations, documents, and digital projects while learning workplace-ready technology skills. They also produce multimedia content in the school’s green screen studio and may participate in the school’s television production program, Tiger TV.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Course Info	Description
Coding Fundamentals Mr. McKillion	Coding Fundamentals is an introductory course to programming languages and concepts. Students will use HTML to create webpages, Python to explore programming languages, and Scratch to explore block coding. Students will also earn the ICT Digital Tool Certification Programming and Logic Essentials.
Computer Fundamentals Mr. McKillion	Requires application with FSA scores of 3, 4 or 5. This is a high school course where you can earn high school credit and an industry certification. This is a mostly student-paced course for students who are able to work independently.
Fundamentals of A/V Print Technology Mr. McKillion	In this class, students get an introduction to TV production, photography, and video editing. Students will rotate through roles like anchor, camera operator, and reporter, preparing them for the 8th grade Tiger TV production class.
7th Grade Computer Application Business 3 Mr. Leischner	Students explore essential skills using Google Workspace tools such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Additional topics include typing, digital communication, and online safety.
7th Grade Computer Application Business 4 Mr. Leischner	Builds on the skills developed in Computer Applications 3 with advanced, project-based work. Students complete authentic assignments that mirror real workplace and technology tasks.
6th Grade Computer Application 2 Dr. Roberson	Students will learn how computers, networks, and the internet work. The class explores how we use technology at home, school, and work, and introduces careers in the tech industry.
