Technology Education & Manufacturing
The Technology Education and Manufacturing (Shop Academy) introduces students to woodworking, construction skills, and manufacturing concepts through hands-on learning. Students learn how to safely use tools, build projects, and understand how structures and materials work together.
By 8th grade, students have the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized carpentry certification, giving them a strong start in construction and skilled trades pathways.

What do students do?
Students work in a supervised shop environment where they practice safety procedures, learn to use hand and power tools, and complete woodworking projects. They measure materials, follow construction plans, and build projects while developing teamwork, responsibility, and pride in their work.

8th Grade Exploration of Green Construction and Architecture Technology |
This course provides students with opportunities to become familiar with related careers and develop fundamental technological literacy as they learn about the history, systems, and processes of manufacturing. In addition, the course will provide an overview of the safe use of tools and equipment used in the industry. Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with the equipment, materials, and technology appropriate to the course content and in accordance with current practices. Students have the opportunity to earn the Carpentry Certification. |

7th Grade Exploration of Technology (Shop) |
The 7th Grade Shop Academy builds on the skills learned in 6th grade and introduces more advanced woodworking and construction concepts. Students continue practicing shop safety while expanding their ability to use hand tools and select power tools. Projects become more complex and require students to read plans, measure accurately, and complete multi-step builds. Students also explore basic carpentry concepts such as materials, fasteners, and construction methods. The course emphasizes problem-solving, teamwork, and developing strong work habits as students prepare for the advanced projects and industry certification opportunities offered in 8th grade. |
