Digital Discoveries

The Digital Discoveries Academy helps students build essential technology and communication skills for the modern world. Students learn how to use computer programs, create digital content, and explore areas such as gaming, web design, and media production.

The program prepares students for future technology careers and provides the opportunity to earn the Social Media Strategist Industry Certification.

What do students do?
Students use Google Workspace tools to create presentations, documents, and digital projects while learning workplace-ready technology skills. They also produce multimedia content in the school’s green screen studio and may participate in the school’s television production program, Tiger TV.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Coding Fundamentals

Mr. McKillion

Coding Fundamentals is an introductory course to programming languages and concepts. Students will use HTML to create webpages, Python to explore programming languages, and Scratch to explore block coding. Students will also earn the ICT Digital Tool Certification Programming and Logic Essentials. No prior knowledge of coding is necessary.

Computer Fundamentals

Mr. McKillion

Computer Fundamentals (Requires application with FSA scores of 3, 4 or 5) is a high school course, which means you can earn high school credit upon successful completion of this course. More exciting than that, though, is that you will also earn an industry certification. Computer Fundamentals is a mostly student-paced course for students who are able to work independently and stay on task!

Fundamentals of A/V Print Technology

Mr. McKillion

In this class, students get an introduction to TV production, photography, and video editing. They’ll learn the basics of how a news show is made and practice using real studio equipment and media software. Students will rotate through beginner-friendly roles like anchor, camera operator, audio support, teleprompter, and reporter. This course builds confidence, teamwork, and creative skills that prepare students for the 8th grade Tiger TV production class and future multimedia courses.

7th Grade

Computer Application Business 3

Mr. Leischner

In this course, students explore essential skills for success in today’s digital world. The class focuses on practical applications of technology, including Google Workspace tools such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. Students will learn how to create and format documents, build spreadsheets, design presentations, and collect information through digital forms.

Additional topics include typing and keyboarding skills, digital communication, and online safety and security. Students will gain valuable experience using technology for academic, personal, and professional purposes. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to confidently use digital tools in high school and beyond.

7th Grade

Computer Application Business 4

Mr. Leischner

In this course, students build on the skills developed in Computer Applications 3 and move into more advanced, project-based work using digital tools. Students complete authentic assignments that mirror real school, workplace, and everyday technology tasks—planning, creating, revising, and presenting high-quality work. By the end of Computer Applications 4, students will be able to independently manage multi-step technology projects, demonstrate stronger technical confidence, and apply digital skills for high school coursework, future careers, and real-world problem solving.

6th Grade

Computer Application 2

Dr. Roberson

Computer Applications in Business 2 - Students will learn how computers and networks work and how the internet works. The class will explore how we use technology at home, school and work, and explore careers working with computers and technology.
